Events
A Tri-Chapter Meeting with the Long Island,
New York Metro and New Jersey Chapters will take
place on Wednesday, May 19th.
We will be visiting the offices of Skanska USA Building on the 32nd Floor of the Empire State Building in Manhattan. The Skanska office has been awarded a LEED Commercial Interiors Platinum certification. The tour will end with dinner afterward.
The offices employ an underfloor air system, natural daylighting, sensor-controlled lighting systems, low VOC-emitting materials, locally-sourced and recycled materials, location near public transit, Energy Star-compliant appliances, waterless urinals, low-flow toilets, and hand-sensing faucets. The Skanska offices use 35% less energy than ASHRAE standards call for and have reduced water usage to 40% below Energy Policy Act standards. Skanska (as the builder) recycled 80% of the construction waste and preserved 40% of the non-structural interior components. Recycled products were used throughout the office, and 28% of materials were manufactured within 500 miles. The Forest Stewardship Council also certified 89% of the wood-based materials used throughout the office.
Tour Start: Empire State Building, 350 Fifth Avenue, New York; meet in Lobby.
Start Time: 4:30 p.m.
Dinner: 6:30 p.m. at Annie Moore’s, 50 East 43rd Street; program will include a discussion of the Skanska office design, and conclude with short reports from the three Chapter presidents. The tour and the dinner are a package and cannot be reserved or paid for separately. Cost is $30 per person.
Reservations: Required. There are only 40 places for this tour, and the first 40 who sign up will have a confirmed reservation. Reservations will ONLY be paid-in-advance. Reservations will be through Brown Paper Tickets ONLY, and will open at noon on Thursday, April 15. Reservations will close at noon on Monday, May 16, so that the final list of attendees can be compiled for security reasons.
